The Gold Coast

So many wealthy industrialists and business magnates of that storied time-built country estates along the expanse of lush rolling hills and boulder-strewn shore that it became known as the Gold Coast, a nickname that remains in use to this day. It was also the inspiration for "The Great Gatsby". They are all on the North Shore of Long Island and consist of:
While those grand estates no longer exist, there are many other lavish properties as well as many more affordable homes to be had. The more residential areas consist of The Brookvilles, Mill Neck, Muttontown, Old Westbury and Oyster Bay. There is the Meadow Brook Polo Club, The Planting Fields Arboretum, Old Westbury Gardens, The Sands Point Preserve, and The Muttontown Preserve that gives a hint of the splendors of the past.
For Shopping there are many outstanding stores in the Americana in Manhasset, Wheatly Plaza in Greenvale, and fine independent stores in Great Neck, Port Washington and Glen Cove. Bayville boasts Gooseberry Grove which is a highly rated ice cream store and Walls Wharf where you can dine on the beach.
